1 Kings 11:33 (TLB) For Solomon has forsaken me and worships Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians; and Chemosh, the god of Moab; and Milcom, the god of the Ammonites. He has not followed my paths and has not done what I consider right; he has not kept my laws and instructions as his father David did.
While Solomon was the wisest man in all of Scripture, and given wisdom by God, riches by God, rulership by God, there came a day and time in his life when he deserted the God that blessed him. He deserted the God that had given him abundance, blessings, honor, esteem, riches, and much more. His heart was turned of his own choosing through the power and seduction of wives that served pagan gods. The end result was a loss of the blessing of God, and a ripping away of the kingdom. It is totally possible to abandon God, after years of blessings, and abundance. However, there is never an abandonment toward God without a high price that will be paid. If a person, family, or nation chooses to turn and abandon God, God will see to it that they experience blight, more blight, and then more blight. Such was the life of Solomon, and is the life of any who choose a life of “abandoning God”. We will always reap what we sow….that is the eternal law of Holy God.
