1 Kings 12:15 (TLB) So the king refused the people’s demands. (But the Lord’s hand was in it—he caused the new king to do this in order to fulfill his promise to Jeroboam, made through Ahijah, the prophet from Shiloh.)
A new leader was about to take the throne of Israel. Prior to taking the throne, he asked counsel of both the old men and the young men. Rather than listening to counsel that would make life easy on the people in the land, he listened to the younger men, who encouraged the king to make life hard on the people with tremendous work loads. Yet, in the midst of all that happened, the Lord was at work, accomplishing His purpose. Whether the king thought about it or not, God was in control. Whether the king wanted to cooperate with God, God was still in control. The same holds true today. Whether we realize it, consider it, acknowledge it, this very day is under the control of the Sovereign God of the universe. His plans are in the process of being fulfilled and we are walking one step closer to the final chapter of Revelation. God’s people can live today with the assurance that the God that is on His throne is in control of His world today. Let us live in total trust of our God who loves us and will bring us home at the appointed time.
