Numbers 22:27, “When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam was angry and struck the donkey with his stick.”
According to this text, God so arranged and allowed an animal, namely a donkey to see God’s angel standing in the road. So sobering was the sight that the donkey lay down, and with that Balaam struck the donkey. In the world God has created there are a million things that we will never understand, but in this case, one donkey saw and beheld an angel and was so taken by the angel that the donkey sat in the road. Can that happen today? Does that happen today? If God decrees it to be so it will, yet the wonderful truth is that even God’s animals can behold angels according to God’s bidding. On this occasion, Balaam’s donkey was allowed to see the angel and protected Balaam. If God so decrees, He can allow who He chooses to see His angels…even the animals.
