Philippians 4:5, “Let your gentle spirit….” (NASB)
At first glance, it appears that this is incomplete…but there is a sobering word at the very beginning of this verse…the word “let.” The word really carries the meaning of “allowing” it to happen. If you are to be gentle, you must allow it to happen deep within you. When you are taken advantage of, scorned by others, berated by those who are ungodly, the call of God is to “allow” gentleness to be a reality of your responses in life. A gentle spirit will be misunderstood by some, and misinterpreted by others, yet God never minces His Word. Let/allow gentleness to spring from your being and you will discover the overwhelming joy of the Lord, as He sees in you a life that desires to obey His Word more than anything else in life. As you allow yourself to become gentle, God is pleased and will shower that pleasure upon your life and all that is under your care.
